Aesthetic Breast Surgery
Three procedures fall under the category of Aesthetic Breast Surgery. Breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lift are the types of procedures you may be considering. These operations are performed under general anesthesia and patients may be required to stay overnight in the hospital.
In this section augmentation mammaplasty, reduction mammaplasty and mastopexy are outlined. The augmentation of breasts is done with the insertion of silicon implants. Silicon prostheses are not carcinogenic and there is no risk of associated cancer. Some degree of scarring occurs with reduction mammaplasty and mastopexy operations. These scars are generally located around areola and inferior (underneath) to it. Sometimes operations result with a reverse ‘T’ shaped scar that will not be obvious unless examined closely.
