Eyelid surgery may be done for the upper lids, lower lids or both at the same time. An evaluation of the eyelids and eyebrows is made to determine which eyelid procedure is needed. Eyelid operations are performed under local anesthesia and usually lasts between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Excess skin, excess fat, and the underlying muscle structure are all considered during the operation. In some cases a face lift procedure is done at the same time to tighten loose tissues and wholly rejuvenate the face. Eyelid stitches are hidden under the folds of the eyelid and lashes making scarring minimal. The stitches are removed within 3-5 days and the patient can return to work almost immediately.
